Lysine and Muscle Synthesis
Lysine is found in abundance in skeletal muscle. It plays an important role in the building and maintenance of skeletal muscle tissue. Low levels of lysine have been linked to a slowdown of protein synthesis. Protein synthesis is essential in helping your body rebuild muscle after a workout. When you exercise your muscles, the muscle proteins break down. Lysine helps to rebuild muscle tissue, aiding in the recovery process after a workout or game
Lysine And Vitamin C
Lysine, like most amino acids, doesn’t act alone. Often, amino acids will combine with vitamins, minerals, and other compounds in your body to form other amino acids. Lysine readily combines with vitamin C, especially when concentrations of lysine in the body are high. When lysine is combined with vitamin C, your body will convert it into another amino acid, carnitine. Carnitine helps the body metabolize fat stores and regulate oxygen. When you exercise, this means that your body will be more efficient in burning fat and delivering oxygen to muscles that need it.
Everybody needs Vitamin C, whether you are a hard training athlete, or an everyday person that is just trying to get in shape. Vitamin C can help protect the immune system and help bodybuilders recover from intense training.
Vitamin C and Metabolism
Vitamin C helps in protein and fat metabolism. It not only provides our body with certain necessary proteins but also blocks the synthesis of vital proteins that cause infection and inflammation. It is also believed that vitamin C, lysine and proline usage may support efforts to maintain and support cardiovascular health later in life.
For male athletes, Vitamin C will keep testosterone levels high by supporting a lower ratio of cortisol to testosterone. This will help your body keep up that top level of performance you require on a daily basis.
Collagen Nutrients and Concussions
Quality and quantity of connective tissue (bone, ligaments, tendons, cartilage) repair is directly related to high levels of Vitamin C, Lysine and Proline which are the building blocks of our number one muscle/tissue repair and recovery mechanism (collagen).
Anti-Catabolic Effect of Collagen Production
Catabolism is the process of breaking down tissues. When you exercise, your body enters a catabolic state. After exercise, it is important to reverse this catabolic effect and enter an anabolic state, which is a state of tissue growth. Lysine has been found to decrease the rate of protein degradation by helping to produce collagen in the body, thus acting as a anti-catabilic compound. By slowing the rate of protein degradation, it is easier for your body to become anabolic after a workout and to recover and build muscle.
Ubiquinol for Power and Performance
A double-blind, placebo-controlled study, which involved 100 Olympic athletes who received either a placebo or Ubiquinol, reported that power production of trained athletes improved by 2.5 percent after taking Ubiquinol. Additionally, after six-weeks of training, athletes who received Ubiquinol demonstrated higher levels of muscle power compared to those who did not receive the supplement.
